Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 Upgrade Issue

Just came across a little issue as I tried to upgrade my Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) to 11.04 Alpha 2 (Natty).
I followed the offical upgrade guide on ubuntu.com (http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/natty/alpha2) and ran into following error.

root@jazz:/home/andreas-glaser# update-manager -d
warning: could not initiate dbus

GLib-GIO:ERROR:/build/buildd/glib2.0-2.26.1/gio/gdbusconnection.c:2270:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
Aborted

Solution

Instead of “update-manager -d” simply use “dbus-launch update-manager -d”

For the best video quality with the default video player, choose following setting in you video converter.
I would recommend to use “Super” which converts almost any format!

Max Resolution: 800x480px
Container: MP4
Codec: H.264/AVC
Bitrate: 768kbs (maybe a bit more)
Framerate: 25

Audio Codec: AAC LC
Bitrate: 112kbs
Frequency: 44100

A few months ago i came across this campaign called “IE6 No More”,
it’s attempt or better yet it’s goal is to erase once and for all, the source of all evil “Internet Explorer 6″. :)

Enough is enough. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 was released in late 2001. For its time, it was a decent browser, but in 2009, it is still in use by a significant portion of the web population, and its time is now up.

As any web developer will tell you, working with IE 6 is one of the most difficult and frustrating things they have to deal with on a daily basis, taking up a disproportionate amount of their time. How to update HTC Touch HD .NET Compact Framework

This is a search query a user typed in Google and ended up on my blog.
I thought it might be a good idea to answer it since there seems to be need for it. :)

This How-To should work for all Windows Mobile devices.

Step 1
First of all you need to make sure you installed “ActiveSync” correctly. A good way to test it is to synchronize your contacts with the contacts on your desktop PC.

Step 2
Now it’s time to download the .NET Framework from Microsoft’s official website.

Click here to download

Save it somewhere where you can find it easily (preferably on your desktop).

Step 3
Connect your Phone via USB to your PC and select “ActiveSync” mode. To confirm that it’s connected correctly check the ActiveSync icon in your traybar in the bottom right of your screen. It has to be green.

Step 4
Double click the downloaded file “NETCFSetupv35.msi” to execute it. Follow the installation procedure until it tells you “Please check your mobile device to see if additional steps are necessary to complete this installation”.

Step 5
Check your phone. It should ask you if you want to install the .NET Compact Framework. Click OK to proceed.

That’s it. Your handset should now run on the latest .NET Framework.
