How to make Firefox look like Chome

Granted, Googles Chrome looks a thousand times better than Firefoxes default theme.
Luckily we can with only three small addons make Firefox look and feel almost identical.

Required Addons

Chromifox Basic – Chrome theme for Firefox
Ominbar – Combines address and searchbar
Download Statusbar – Displays download statuses in the statusbar

Best Apps for HTC Touch HD (Windows Mobile)

Here is a list of the best software for Windows Mobile 6.1 that i found so far.
I will update this list in case I got more great apps.

.NET Compact Framework 3.5
Many applications you will come across might need the .NET Compact Framework 3.5… it’s therefore probably a good idea if update it right away.

BeyondPod
If you enjoy listening to podcasts, this is a must have app.
It give you the possibility to browse podcast directories, subscribe to podcasts and to downloaded them (one by one or all together).

Google Maps
What can I say… it’s Google Maps :-)
Really great working map software which also does a quite good job (not even close as good as TomTom or Garmin) in giving you direction.
Don’t forget to enable GPS in the software.

Fring
Fring is a nice multi messenger that combines various protocols/messengers in one software. It’s by far not perfect but I’d say the best choice at the moment. Nimbuzz might be better but it’s far too slow.

Skype
Official Windows Mobile version of skype. Looks great, works great but the downside is, you can’t use it as long as you’re not connected to a wireless connection.

Klaxon
Klaxon is a alarm clock software. It much more convenient as the inbuilt alarm clock and also provides some sweet gimmicks.
Lets say your alarm clock goes of in the morning… you grab the phone and shake it… now you can snooze another 10 minutes… 10 minutes later you turn on the light in the room and the alarm is disabled. You can customize that of course.

Skyfire
Like Opera Mini, Internet Exploere is Skyfire another web browser. Although the resolution of the programm including rendered website is horrible, it provides one thing none of the other browsers have. Flash! Enjoy alle flash website as YouTube.

HTC Tweak
This software provides you with HTC Touch HD setting you cannot access usually.
For instance: You can change the ringing type to “vibrate + increase ring”. which is not available in the standard options.

Facebook
This app is a must have, if you’re one of the millions of Facebook addicts. It keeps you up to date and also saves bandwith since you don’t have to access the website.

FingerSuite
The FingerSuite replaces the standard menu view with a finger friendly and way more attractive alternative. It’s slightly slower (no reason not to use it).

SPB Mobile Shell
This is the first none free app in my post so far… but believe me when I say: It’s worthed every cent.
The SPB Mobile Shell completely replaces the default TouchFlow surface. You can for instance, connect contacts with your contacts on facebook.

HTC Touch HD – Impressions

I finally got my hands on the HTC Touch HD.
For weeks I was comparing and reading about the various touchscreen phones out there. And quite frankly I was more or less disappointed with the choice I had. Some were too slow, some had no 3.5mm audio jack and most of them were simply too expensive for what they offered.

By some coincidence I came across the Touch HD by HTC. It was love at first sight! Particularly the huge 3.8 inches touchscreen was pretty attractive although I didn’t really like the idea of using a Windows Mobile 6.1 based cell.

After reading dozens of reviews I decided to get me the Touch HD.

Now, two weeks later and hours and hours of playing around, installing cool software, changing the shell (software surface) and using the fully touchscreen based keyboard – I can say that this is by far the best phone I’ve ever had.
It’s reasonable fast, the battery lasts up to two days (moderate usage), it has a stunning video quality and it’s quite responsive.

I dearly enjoy being able to install/update/change basically anything I want. This goes hand in hand with the sheer amount of free and paid software available for Windows Mobile.

So much for expressing my love for my new HTC Touch HD.

In my next post about this phone I will list some of the best apps i came across.

English is not the (first) offical language. It is Irish (gaeilge).

Tipps zur Erziehung von Kindern

Ich bin mir im Klaren darüber, dass dieser Artikel nicht ganz in die Reihe hier passt aber ich dachte mir dieser Tipp ist so genial, dass er einfach veröffentlicht werden muss.

Es ist sicherlich nicht ausgeschlossen, dass es einen vergleichbaren Tipp in der Literatur gibt, jedoch habe ich nie von solch einem gelesen oder gehört.

Die folgende Methode ist nur dann anwendbar wenn man genau zwei Kinder hat. Eingefallen ist mir das Ganze vor ein paar Jahren, obwohl ich selbst noch keine Kinder habe.

Das Szenario

Fred und Marie sind zwei Geschwister welche von ihrem Vater eine Packung Gummibärchen bekommen. Da der Vater sich nicht die Zeit nehmen will die Gummibärchen gerecht aufzuteilen entsteht zwischen den beiden ein vorhersehbarer Streit, wer denn mehr haben dürfe.

Der Tipp

Nun, damit dieser Streit erst gar nicht entsteht und die Packung von den Kindern möglichst gerecht aufgeteilt wird, ist mir folgendes eingefallen.

Der Vater gibt den Kindern die Packung Gummibärchen mit der Auflage, dass Fred die Packung in zwei gleich große Teile aufteilen soll und sich anschließend Marie für eine der beiden Teile entscheiden darf.

Fred wird nun in Folge daraus sich sehr viel Mühe geben die zwei Teile so exakt gleich aufzuteilen wie möglich, da er genau weiß, dass Marie sich mit Sicherheit für den größeren Teil entscheiden wird.

Diese Vorgehensweise sollte nun immer abgewechselt werden.

Das Ergebnis

Im Zuge dieser Maßnahme wird es in Zukunft sicherlich keine Streitereien bei dem Teilen von verschiedenen Dingen geben, da sich keines der Kinder über seinen Teil beklagen kann.

Ich hoffe euch gefällt die Idee genau so wie mir, auch wenn dieser Artikel nicht ganz gewöhnlich für meinen Blog ist.
